What is XBRL?
In plain language
XBRL turns your financial statements into a structured, machine-readable format so regulators can read and compare them electronically.
- A common digital language for business and financial reporting.
- Each figure in your accounts is tagged to a standard element (the MCA taxonomy).
- Filed with the MCA in e-form AOC-4 XBRL instead of the ordinary AOC-4.
Who must file in XBRL
Applicability under the Companies Act, 2013

- Companies listed on a stock exchange in India, and their Indian subsidiaries.
- Larger companies that cross the prescribed paid-up capital or turnover limits.
- Companies required to prepare their accounts under the Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS).
- Exempt: banking, insurance, power-sector and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs).
